Out with the old & in with the new

Having returned from the memorial tour of Belgium and France almost a week ago, I find myself hard at work putting routes together for The Haggis Hunt, our summer jaunt to Scotland based loosely on the North Coast 500.

The memorial tour route

The memorial tour was an unqualified success, approximately 1500 miles in 9 days meant that the pace wasn’t too punishing and we had a mix of wild camping and campsites so that the number of  days between hot showers was bearable. We were also blessed with excellent weather.

Although the tour was mostly based on first and second world war sites with the opportunity to pay our respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice we also took the opportunity to visit a couple of established friends in Mathieu Copin (whose family are not only extremely hospitable but also grow superb champagne and M Calmus who makes the inimitable Gris wine in the Bourgogne.

So what of the Haggis hunt then, this will take place over 2 weeks in August and start with a night of wild camping on the east coast (who doesn’t love a fire on the beach) before we head up through the Cairngorms and into the highlands. We have some excellent spots earmarked for wild camping (we will,as always, leave no trace and take away only memories) and we are booked into some stunning campsites so that we can use the facilities every few days. Once the route has taken more shape we will put an outline on the web page and you will be able to follow us through our blog posts when we are away.

Fancy joining us? although the Haggis hunt is fully booked we will have space on the Dragon Hunt, our annual trip to do some wild camping in Wales, we will be opening this to non members this year if you want to try your hand at a short overlanding trip or get to know us before deciding to commit to joining. Watch the webpage or social media for details, email Mark@rhol.club or use the contact form to express interest.
